For clarity, EAST is dealer, SOUTH ended up declaring 6H after overcalling.

Scoring: IMP

(3D) - 3H - (P) - 4D
(P) - 4H - (P) - 4S
(P) - 5D - (P) - 6H

North denies a club control so 100% blame to South.

Unanimous one time?!? Wait unanimous north's fault right? When did north deny club control? South is the one who denied it. Unless I'm seeing the auction wrong or something?

Wasn't it South who overcalled and cued 5♦?
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

South?

I dont know, who denied a club control, but one thing is for sure
South did bid 4D, South did bid 4S.
That leaves the question if South has any values left to show after
those two bids?

LOL the auction makes sense (sort of) regardless of which opponent opened 3♦. Anyway the dealer is East so that makes it North's fault.

Hi,

if South did overcall 3H - than I think South is at least partially at fault as
well, I can understand, that North was expecting more for the 3H bid.

Or it is a matter of getting tue with regards to style.

Blame North. He knew neither one of them had a club control and went to slam anyway. South's overcall is on the light side but with singleton in their suit, action is normal and was not cause of the problem.

south made a gross overbid with 5♦, overcalling with this trash should be enough overbid for anyone, but he went for some more. He gets the first blood award

But north then made a suicide jump off 2 known tricks so wins the match

I guess I was alone in thinking that south did not deny a club control by bidding 5D.

Anyway sorry to disappoint, I was neither north nor south, though they are a good pair.

OK, agree it's a shaky overcall. But south did rebid 4♥ denying any further interest. North bid 4♠ anyway so south's 5♦ is pretty much mandatory. After all, north will sign off in 5 with no club control ... oops.

200% north.

Missread who was in what seat... a big oops here.

The blame is mostly North's since while South's OC is agressive, he did rebid 4♥ denying further interest.

I also don't think South denied a club control in principle when he bid 5D, but given that North knows that the diamond cue is a second round control, North knows that South can't have much in clubs.

But I do also think South overbid when he bid 5D, he has a pile of rubbish and should sign off as fast as possible. It's hard to blame North simply for driving slam opposite the initial overall.

Anyway, perhaps East had singleton CK or CA and it made on a diamond lead.

What is wrong with south cuebidding? He is already limited by doing nothing over 4♦ and he is not increasing the level that is being forced to. And despite being very minimum south's hand has some very useful features for slam. If both north's queens were a club honor he would want just a little cooperation to bid slam.
