Anyway, they haven't made it yet (though they often will), and if the 2♠ bidder guarantees values it is very easy for RHO to double us.

I can construct too many hands where 2 ♠ makes. And I am not afraid that they can double so easily. East did not redouble and he does not know that his partner has his high cards outside spades. So he can count for at most one trick from partner and needs four in his own hand to double.
Surely possible. But with such a hand 2 X is a disaster too.

well it is either pass or 3♣. Having seen some of the TOX advocated here over 2 level preempts it is not going to be pretty. I try 3♣ it will be harder for RHO to X after his partner's preempt.

I choose 3♣ as the least of evils. -200 beats -470. Heck, -500 beats -570.

I like the 2NT scrambling "I play whatever convention helps me most on the current hand even if no one plays it" convention.

Pass - (2♠) - X - (pass)
Pass
Ok-ok, maybe the hand was more curious than it was difficult. I wanted to see if somebody would 'chicken out' in here. A few did.
2♠ is maybe a favourite to make, but still it must be best to pass imo. A somewhat unusual situation.
2♠X was the final contract at 4 out of 12 tables, but declarer only went down at our table.
Does anyone have a guess as to what might have happened at the other three tables in 2♠X where declarer took 8 tricks?
Here it went
♦K to the ace.
♠ to Q and ace.
♠ to the 9.
♣ through.
2 club tricks, 1 heart trick and there was no trump coup at the end.
