Is there any way to have a running average in the hands and results section of your program? I think that part of the problem with this is the different recording methods used by different hosts. (Maybe by having a different column and an average box at the bottom for each type of recording ie imps, and percent) If this is possible, it would help people to see if their game is improving.

The BBO my-hands is very useful, but all hands are included in the final calculations, and the results are given for the preceding month. but this gives an average for the month which includes many random factors, like unknown partners, social tables and serious events all strung together.
For serious (ACBL etc) tournaments, I have another separate ID and this gives me a fair idea of overall performance. If you only ever play serious games with a regular partner then this, I suppose, is not necessary.
I recently won an ACBL Indy, playing SAYC, so I am content..... but not complacent

The "recent tournaments" area of "hands and results" will be much improved in the next version of the BBO web-client. Among other changes, you will be able to filter the list according to form of scoring and, when such a filter is applied, averages will be displayed.
Not clear when the next version will be released, but hopefully we will manage to get this done within about 2 weeks.

Just have to say that going off of IMPs/bd or MP average is a very POOR measure of bridge skill. There are some pairs (e.g. Meckwell, or any other TRUE w.c. pair) that I would be thrilled to only be losing to by an imp/board. There are other pairs where winning 2 imps/bd would be a rather poor showing. Long term averages probably say more about the skill of who you're playing against rather than yourself.

I agree, but since the level of the field in BBO tournaments tends to be fairly consistent (especially for those members who tend to play in the same types of tournaments most of the time), in this case the numbers are meaningful.
