If West leads:
1. A SPADE: South wins in dummy, comes to the CLUB 9, draws trump. DUMMY is now high.
2. A HEART: Dummy ruffs with the SPADE Ace, comes to the Club 9, draws trump. Dummy is now high.
3. A CLUB. South wins in DUMMY with any card but the 8, plays the trump ACE, comes to the Club 9, draws trumps. Dummy is high.
Now for SETUP #2 - SWITCH NORTH'S TRUMP ACE with WEST'S Spade Deuce (or ANY of his 4 small spades, as it turns out):
SETUP #2: E-W can make FOUR SPADES on defense in this manner:
1. WEST leads the SPADE ACE, removing dummy's trump. 1 trick for E-W.
2. WEST cashes 6 heart tricks. EAST discards all his clubs along the way. SOUTH must follow suit the entire way. 7 tricks for E-W.
3. WEST leads a club. EAST ruffs it. 8 tricks for E-W.
4. EAST leads a diamond, WEST ruffs it. 9 tricks for E-W.
5. WEST leads another club. EAST ruffs it. 10 tricks for E-W.
South claims the last 3 tricks with high trumps.
