I'm exploring a system with strong club, 12-14 nt and 2D=3-suited short diamonds. This means 1D=3+ diamonds with shortness or 6+ diamonds with or without shortness.

I have lots of room over 1H responses

1D-1H,
.....1S-four spades or 3-1-(54)
.....1N-6 diamonds
..........2C-relays
.....2C-four hearts
..........2D-GT
.....2D-5/5 minors
..........2S-relays
.....2H-1-3-(54)

but not so much over 1S responses

1D-1S,
.....1N-short spades (e.g. 1-4-5-3 or 1-4-4-4)
.....2C-6D/4C or 5D/5C
..........2H-relays
.....2D-6D or 6D/4H
..........2H-relays
.....2H-3-(541)
..........2N-relays
.....2S-four spades

Any suggestions?

Reading between the lines, I'm assuming that you are intending to open all 15+HCP hands with 1, and 1 and 1 are 5+ card suits.

It is unclear to me what you do with 2-2-(54) over either 1 or 1.

Hi:

I would switch around some of the meanings of bids.

The XYZ convention would appear to fill in many of the gaps.

1D-1H-1NT should be the short H hand

1D-1H-2C shows the minors(and maybe the 3H fragment also)

1D-1H-2D natural seems better than 'minors', since getting to two clubs is very difficult after the 2D rebid.

1D-1H-2H would be a 4 trump raise.

1D-1S-1NT seems ok

1D-1S-2C 5-5 minors

With 6D, you tend to rebid Ds.

1D-1S-2H might show 3=4=5=1 types

1D-1S-2S nat. 4 trump raise.

If you like relays, Viking Club has a fairly decent set of bids over 1D openings.

Regards,
Robert

Yes. 5-card majors. The 2-2-(54) hands open 1N. 1C for all 15+

Thanks. I was planning to use XYZ or some variant. It's particularly necessary if I were to keep 1D-1H, 1S as four or 3-1-(54) because I have to be able to sort this out.

The difficulty with 1D-1H, 2D as natural is that 2S would be the relay initiator and I won't have sufficient room to sort out the 6D/4C from the 6D hands.

Is the Viking Club's 1D the same? Thanks again.
