, love all, do you open?

there were 4 passouts in 77 tables.

4 tables bid and made 4 spades, cause partner had about 10 an the defense must not have been kosher

bottom board was 4sapdes doubled down 3

i passed.

With both majors and expecting ~9 from partner, I think we can maneuver a plus score out of this.

If you play the F convention, then use it! Otherwise open 1.

Same here, I think we have positive expectancy if we open this hand that is 45 in majors whether we are playing Flannery or not.

abstain. I would never, ever play the F convention, even at gun point.

2D.

Partner will have on avg. 8HCP, this means you have 20HCP,
you have a opening bid, which ensures, that you will play your
best fit, and you will have a 8 card fit - most of the time,
your opening bid makes it also very hard for the opponents to
enter the auction.
=> You have a good chance to go plus, hence open.

If you would not play Flannery, than I guess there is a stronger
case for Passing this hand out, although I still would open.

With kind regards
Marlowe

Open 1H
You have Drury protection for Hts..... or partner may bid 1S.

For those who like a crutch, the hand follows the Rule-of-18 in 4th seat:
Open if + + hcp = 18 or more ( even if you don't count the stiff K ).

Why shouldn't I open? I don't see it. I have the majors in 4th position - and I even have an opening hand. :)

no brainer. Yes the singleton King is a downside- but with both majors and 12 hcps you cannot pass.
Kind Regards

The rule of 15 is already too conservative IMHO, rule of 14 is more appropriate especially at matchpoints. And this is a rule of 16 hand, even with a possibly usefull ten, and heart length which should also be factored in although of course less crucial than spades length! And you even have an opening that allows you to bid this hand in one go, depriving opps the 1-level!

Make K a small diamond and we can discuss.
