Uncontested,
1M-1nt-
2m-2nt-
3m

Doesn't seem to limit opener's hand at all, so responder never passes this. It should at least be limited by failure to make an initial jump shift. Suggest rule to make this sharply limited, intended signoff.

Contrast with
1M-1nt;
2m-2M;
3m
which should probably be stronger.

Opener's jump shift would be very strong (I think GIB plays that it shows 20+, although I think most humans shade the requirement a little from that), so 2m has a very wide range (10-19). What would you rebid as opener with 17 HCP and 5-5? If you bid 3NT, you could easily go down when 5m is making; if you jump to 4m to show the top half of your range, you've bypassed 3NT.

Yes, this auction is less than ideal. For now, just assume that 1S-1N-2D-2N-3D is forcing, and that there is no way to stop in 3D after this start.
