Scoring: MP

1-1-X-P
2-P-?

1: 16+ art
X: Usually 5-7, but could be GF if no better bid
2: nat 5+ suit, f1rd

Go high or go low? 3C would be NF, 3H would be a splinter, 4C was undiscussed but is presumably better than 3C. If it makes any difference, the 1C bidder might bid a slightly offshape NT here with heart stoppers, so you can presume they are unbalanced or stopperless. It's extremely rare that X isn't 5-7 at this low a level unless responder is perfect t/o shape.

Edit: quick statement clarification in description. Also, this is from an outside source, in case it seems familiar, but I'm interested in what other precision pairs would do in this situation.
I once yelled at my partner for discarding the 'wrong' card when he was subjected to a squeeze that I allowed by giving the wrong count with too high a card. Now he's allowed to pitch aces when the opponents have the king in the dummy. At trick 2. When he could have followed suit. And blame me.

5-fit for partner's C. 5x diamonds side when partner didn't express S-interest. A minor rebid, here 2C, may be much stronger but going slow with minor suit(s).
I have H-single to allay H-losers fear and can show that immediately. 3H. Go minimum from now on.

So what would 3 show? A fit jump would be nice to have...

BTW, doesn't "forcing 1 round" usually mean that opener promises another bid? If so, 3 cannot be non-forcing.

If I don't have a fit jump available I'll take the splinter...

I'll splinter, partner probably has length (opps bid only 1 and didn't support) so it's important that he can evaluate his hand.

I'd splinter if partner won't take me as the exceptional GF hand by doing so.

hmm.. 4 seems just about right, unless there's a risk pard takes this as some GF variant, in which case 5 is more appropriate.

I bid what I think we can make. 5. (i.e. it maybe a 3 or 5 hand).

5 for me -- the lack of controls makes me squeamish about the tempting 3.

Unless LHO withheld significant support, it seems like pard has 4+ and will need a few ruffs in dummy...
