You play weiss over a weak two bid.

Here is your hand
Scoring: MP

South passes, and West bids 2S, how do you proceed over 2S, and what do you think the end contract should be?

I've no idea what "weiss" is, but if it includes takeout doubles I make one of those.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Weiss means - X is penalty?

Than I make the bid, which showes the t/o hand type, I am certainly not
going to double.
The alternative is 4NT, given the suit quality it may even be the better choice,
the t/o should be more 5431.

I had to google it, x is optional and should have some spades.

It looks like 3 and guess well if partner bids 3N, or bid 4 if that means clubs and another or clubs and diamonds (Weiss doesn't cover either bid, I believe 3 would be for takeout and is thus also in the frame).

I usually play 3 over 2 as bid 3N with a stop, but may be Michaels, so 2-3-P-3N-P-4 is + so an immediate 4 would be strong with the minors.

This looks like a "wise" choice to me ;)

People still play Weiss? Is the other choice Fishbein?

The way I remember, Weiss is a card showing double - with about the same strength of a 2N overcall. And a 2N overcall becomes takeout.

So thats what I will bid.

3C is a general takeout, 2N is a relay to 3C and then any 3 level bid would show invitational values and a 5 card suit, and a x shows the equivalent of a 1NT opener usually with a spade stop.

Anyhow, I have no idea whether my partner and I have a strong fit. This was not long after having

AKQ1065 spades
93 hearts
AJ1032 Clubs

opposite

7 spades
QJ10542 Hearts
AJ1053 Diamonds
9 Clubs

So a misfit was definitely in mind.

The auction proceeded, pass 2S 2NT 4S pass pass back to me.

Now I bid 5 Spades, effectively asking partner to pick a slam.

Abstain before I knew what weiss is. More strongly abstain after I found out what it is.

Curious: Bridgeguys cites a Larry Weiss: Weiss Convention

Larry Weiss was also a member of MSC for many years and I remember him discussing this treatment.

I think forcing slam is a bit optimistic noting that PD hasn't bid. After 4 I'd bid 4NT hopefully showing that my take out was minor suit biased.
