I want to pass, so I pass.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

resist what? With a partner who seems likely to be void in hearts and yet unable to bid over 1♥? I don't usually use lol....but....lol

If it makes any difference, its over 2♥ not 1♥

It's tempting to master-mind but you should probably resist. When you bid 4♠, on a bad day, it is doubled and dummy is
♠xx ♥K ♦Kxxxx ♣KQxxx. Opponents take ten tricks (♠AK, ♥AQJT, ♣A, ♦AQ, and a ♦ ruff) and retire to the Bahamas :( Partner pleads justifiable homicide, citing this thread as evidence :(

I felt a slight temptation to open 1♠ as dealer, but even if opps had been vul I think I could have resisted.

There certainly isn't any other temptation lurking anywhere on this deal.

What am I supposed to be thinking about? It's partner's lead.

I think that anyone who considers anything but a PASS , has a serious problem with his attitude to the game.

Indeed, provided you pass in tempo, if partner has anything useful he'll double with his heart void.

I'd already opened 2♠ on this hand

No. I give in and suggest that we play a method that allows us to open these hands. As this would involve a move to the Antipodes, partner presumably says no.

Yes bidding 4♠ is a high variance call that is likely to get you severely punished. Any tenaces your side has are in partner's hand and likely to be precarious. Nevertheless I was irritated to be holding such a crappy hand in a QUICK auction. Clearly partner has minimal values as he could not act over 2♥ yet RHO only bid 4♥ with clearly next to no thought so slam possibilities were not even considered. As an experiement I ventured 4♠ as I figured I had a 420+ point cushion. So when can it be right to try this in a real game? I suggest that if you are playing Justin's team in a short match say 8 boards you try it against him on the first hand(for whatever psychological advantage you can wrest out of him :) ) or if you know you are down towards the end you could take a shot. :)

The 4♥ bid is often referred to as a transfer to 4♠, but there have to be some limits. This hand is certainly beyond the limit.

Referring to 4♠ as a high-variance call is certainly kind. And on this layout, it might work. What was the table result? Did you make 8 or 9 tricks?

LOL.

The only thing high variance about this hand is partner's failure to act over 2♥.

I know I want to what? Laugh at this post?

Now that I see the hand, I know I want to get a new partner!
