Scoring: IMP

1-P-1-2
X(supp)-P-?

Would you consider passing?
If not , would you pass with a 4342 shape and same cards?

No do not pass with this hand lol. You have an easy 2S bid, should be a comfortable contract in the 4-3 given your strong spades, and if partner has extras he can bid again and you can play a game. Passing could lead to an extremely silly result and is completely unilateral for no real reason given that you have an easy partscore already. It's not like passing has a huge upside.

4342 shape is getting closer, but I still would not pass. I would pass if you reversed the spades and diamonds giving me QTxx Axx QJ98 xx. With strong spades and diamonds that aren't that great, I'd rather bid 2S.

No I'm not passing and it's not close. Lots of upsides to 2 as opposed to pass which is pretty much only catering for partner to have say something like a 3145 (albeit unlikely as RHO could've overcalled 1 or Lefty could've x'd) or maybe 3334 or 3244 (ok slowly talking myself into a pass) but that's getting a bit unlikely give RHO's silence with shortage in diamonds. Besides, partner might have 6 or maybe 7 clubs and with invitational values he can invite after our 2.

There are some auctions where it's a fair idea to make penalty passes on balanced hands, but I really don't think this tends to be one of them. Their fit could be anything, you just don't know. Also I believe in making support doubles on a wide range of hands including some that are totally unsuited for partner guessing to pass, such as 3406 hands here (not that he is likely to have that shape, just making the point).
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
