Friends of mine use reverse Benji. When one partner opens 2D reponder's replies are 2H (showing 0 to 5pts) or 2S (showing 6+pts). They have been told by opponents that their responses are illegal. They always alert these bids. Are these responses illegal? We play under EBU regulations.

All responses and continuations are allowed with or without intervention.

Orange Book 11G1 deals with responses and continuations after an opening bid at the two level.

Your friends' conventional responses are legal.

Your friends should tell their opponents that if they think your friends are using an illegal agreement, they should call the director.

Side note: I once faced this situation at a Sectional Tournament (sort of County level, in EBU terms). When I suggested they call the director, one of them replied "I am a director!" My reply: "Not today, you're not."
