Hi!

I got myself a new PC with Windows 7 a few days ago.

I always had a clear preference for the older Windows program over the web-access, so I naturally installed version 5.2.6 from the website on the new PC.

Everything works like a charm, except weird things have happend with the support for the FD-card.

I play a rather complex relay precision system, so to save time when playing, I made an FD card. But since upgrading to 5.2.6 + Windows 7, I can no longer...

a) See my own alerts.
This is slightly annoying, since the FD card doesn't cover the whole system. So, we get 2-3 bids into a relay auction and I have no idea if my bids are covered by the card. Or in other words: I have to alert almost everything by hand anyway, to make sure the opponents get an alert.

 Edit the card/select a new card.
When I click on the "CONV" button and select "work systemcard"... nothing happens. Quite literally nothing. In the old world (Win 2000), I would get the option to select and edit the FD card.

Any ideas what has gone wrong?

Is there an issue with Windows 7 + version 5.2.6?

Regards

Possibly a stupid question, but... Did you copy the CC to the new machine?

Hi

<snip>
Possibly a stupid question, but... Did you copy the CC to the new machine?
<snip>

Yup, I did :)

Since my last post, I did some further testing on...

A: Win2K
B: Windows Vista
C: Windows 7

In all three cases with version 5.2.6 of the BBO client, i.e. the official version from the web-site.

I see no problems with Win2K or Vista, using the FD card. I can edit the FD, add new bids, select between several cards and I get to see my own alerts.

With Windows 7, I get the following weird behavior:

1)
With a CC copied to the correct directory before I start up the BBO-client, the opponents can see the alerts defined in the FD card. So far, so good. The opponents being able to see the alerts is course the most important thing.

But I cannot see my own alerts. This is not such a big problem. In the perfect world, I would prefer to see my alerts, to know which bids are not covered in the FD.

Yes, the correct option is set in the option menu. No, I don't use this as a memory-aid (that would be illegal, I think) but rather to know which bids are not alerted in the FD, so I can do the alerts by hand when the FD card "runs out".

However, the big problem is that I can't edit nor select another card. Nothing happens if I try to select/edit the chosen FD card.

2)
Without a CC copied to the correct directory (i.e. if I delete the card by hand before starting the BBO client), I cannot create a new card. Nor can I select a card from another directory.

Nothing happens when I click on the "conv"-button.

I tried to re-install the BBO client. It didn't change anything.

At the moment, my money is on a bug in the FD feature in 5.2.6 on Windows 7... a bug, which is clearly not there in Win2K or Windows Vista.

It is not a big problem for me, I will learn to live with how it is.

But surely there must be other Win7 users out there with a FD-card? :) ... I just wondered if they had seen the same problem.

Lars

It seems to work fine on our Windows 7 machine.

Please try making sure you have logged into Windows 7 as an administrator and let me know if that helps.

I am away at a tournament for another week and I won't be able to do any meaningful investigation until after I get home (sorry).

I tried this and it makes no difference, I am afraid.

Try running the bidedit.exe program manually. It should be in the c:/bridge base online directory. This is the progam used to create, edit, etc the FD card.
