By the way on #9 if you open 2♣ pard bids 2N (8-11).

Alerted 8-11 but he does it with as little as 6. Over that you would clearly just want to bid 3NT. For one thing it may be an overstrength game that makes as much in notrump. But even more importantly, Gib has (had?) this habit of raising 3M on this auction to 5M on a doubleton, which would not exactly be fantastic here!

You got a 34.57%? ;)

I'm definitely better at the robot races. I'm still good at these but high variance, I get lots of tops and bottoms (opposite of how I play in real life) so have a fair amount of lousy tourneys.

I'll take these in no specific order.

#9 the hands looked something like this:

Scoring: MP

I did upgrade and raised 2N to 3N. 12 tricks was worth 45%.

Mr. HOF opened 2N as most of you did. North made a 3♠ slam try after 3♣ - 3♥ and obviously you cooperate on the stone nuts in South. His +980 was a 76%. Diamonds were 4-1 and trump were 3-1, so you can't make 13 tricks in hearts by the way, otherwise this would have been a total disaster for me even losing to the 4♥ n00bs.

It's curious that North gets more excited over a 2N opening than the upgraded rebid.

He got more excited opposite a fit when he could make a try below game than opposite no fit when his try would come above game. Of course the real fault lies in the 2NT bid.

Told you he goes nuts when you open 2NT by the way! No need to upgrade, ever. He does it with bidding game too.

It seems to me that this is not the appropriate place for this thread.

What you are discussing here is not really "bridge" , not "interesting bridge hands" , and perhaps barely "bridge related discussion".
IMHO , this thread should be moved elsewhere, so that people , like myself, who are not interested in that other game you are discussing , will not waste time on skipping this thread.

yeah unfortunately the robot likes to pull my 3nt bid to 4h. i think i just need to figure out the bidding a little bit better and be less agressive.

WTF?

If I didn't think you made intelligent posts, I would tell you to go f*** yourself but you probably have some reasons for the way you feel about this.

What are they?

Actually I totally agree with him that there should be a GIB/BEST HAND/ROBOT RACE etc forum. Best hand tourneys are not really related to bridge as played by most people.

On the other hand such a forum does not exist, so for now he should just not read threads related to best hand tourneys if he hates that game so much, and accept that there's not really anywhere else to post about them, and they're related enough to bridge and BBO that it is not off topic to have threads about the problems that come up there.

JDONN FOR MOD OF GIB FORUM!

I actually didn't mind that he wanted it moved, it was the last comment. Oh no, sorry for wasting your time skipping a thread sir! Um, if it takes more time than sneezing then you probably are a lousy thread-skipper.

1. ♠KT ♥A732 ♦A743 ♣JT2

1♦ - 1♥
1♠ - ?

OK, we know GIB opened on its usual crap, but its easy to see how a distributional 4-6 gives a laydown 5♦, or nine runners in NT.

I'm not sure I understand the safety concerns of 1N and 2♦. If GIB pard truly hates his hand, then it will pass our invite.

I do agree this is a marginal GF against a 1♠ rebid that rates to have 12+ instead 12=>. To bid 2♣ fails to understand GIBs.

I rebid 3♦. Here's what happened:

Hand 1

GIB guessed spades (should have laid off them) for +110 and 76%.

Your opponent bid 2N. Here's what happened:

Hand 1 - Mark

GIB tracks the club (even led a count card 3) and it looks like the defense is poised to take 1S, 1H, 1D and 3C. But after conceding a diamond, GIB cashes the ♣A so +120 was scored for a 91% board.

Top was +150 when someone rebid 1N and GIB defended similar to 2N, but a little worse. Nearly all the field is getting overboard here, so any plus is worth at least 65% - someone rebid 2♦ and was made on the nose.

So if gib is going to pass our invite lets say 95 % of the time then the obvious reason to stay one level lower is:

Quote

GIB tracks the club (even led a count card 3) and it looks like the defense is poised to take 1S, 1H, 1D and 3C.

Ie they can hold it to 1 so 2N is going down and:

Quote

someone rebid 2♦ and was made on the nose.
ie had they bid 3D they would go down combined with:

Quote

Nearly all the field is getting overboard here, so any plus is worth at least 65%

seems like you answered your own question.

Basically I think the chance that 3D/2N goes down is more significant than the small chance we miss game even given that if we invite and partner accepts then game will probably be good, it's just such an unlikely occurance.

7. ♠KJ63, ♥AKQ985, ♦5, ♣J8 (all vul);

1♥ - (pass) - 2♥ - (dbl);
?

Hand 7

Not much here. I just chose to invite with 3♥ and GIB accepted. 78%

Mark chose to invite with 2♠ which might be a better call in retrospect, but there's a lot to be said for just bidding game. GIB refused the game invite and he was +170 - 54%.

Amazing that 40% of the declarers failed to take 10 tricks.

I don't for sure. The S sometimes (usually?) plays under a different name too.

But if you look at each hand, the MS did play pretty well.

Amazing that 40% of declarer pulled trump instead of setting up a ruff. How could this happen, on BBO??

Btw, there is another reason to bid 1N, rather than 2N: GIB is more likely to misdefend if we claim to have 10 hcp or less.
Edit: Oh, Phil mentioned in fact that this happened!
