but you don't explain why it is obvious! So what if your partner will be lucky to extract 2 tricks out of your hand with either minor as trumps but with as trump you already have 5 in the bag and chances for 6 tricks

My hand is so much more use in spades than in any other denomination. Even more so than what I showed by 2. Therefore 3. I will be happy if partner raises although I expect a PASS with a misfit more often. He will appreciate that stiff jack or ace is huge and any singleton is ok.

I have a good 7 bagger. I just have to rebid it one more time.

FWIW obv it is nonsense to say partner MUST BE VOID in spades. Partner's bidding would be perfectly normal with J xx AQJxxx AKJx and other similar hands (for an example with stiff A of spades try A xx AKxxxx KQxx).

All partner has shown is 6-4 shape in the minors with less than 2 spades and extra values but not enough to jump shift to begin with (16-17 roughly).

The reason that partner bids 3D even if he has A SPADE is that 2S might be bid on pretty much any 6 card suit because partner might be 6412 or so and can't preference back to diamonds or pass clubs.

Bidding 3D describes your hand and leaves open the possibility of playing diamonds, spades, or no trump. There is pretty much no merit to raising with a stiff spade when you have a perfectly natural 3D bid available. You might not play your best fit (partner can have 6 spades and 2 diamonds pretty often), and you mislead partner who might have a good hand if you have 2 card spade support, but not if you have one spade.

As a side note, even if partner has a spade void you'd much rather be in 3S than 3D when you have a suit like this with nothing else. Your hand is completely useless for diamonds, especially when they figure out to shift to a trump or lead a trump. Your hand is very good for spades where you can take your spade tricks plus partners high honors.

Oh and did I mention that this 2S bid is sometimes bid on a FIVE card suit? That's right KQJ9x xxxxx x xx doesn't really have any bid over 2C besides 2S.

I am surprised by the view that you shoud pass 3 Diamond.

I thought this was a no brainer 3 Spade.

The reasons had been given by others.

My intermediate vote is for 3. I'm not sure why I would want to play in a 7 card fit in a minor at matchpoints when I have a 7 card major.

Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.

I'll change my bbf vote to 3 but would probably still pass at the table. The 3lvl isn't where I want to be on a misfit, I want to get out early.

Let me clarify, I think Csaba didn't write this clearly enough: we have KQT98-7th of spades. That's two trump losers opposite a void and a 5-0 split.

(I hope I don't get censored for shouting the spade suit now, but outside of the laws forum I should be safe I assume.)

Total claptrap. This is only if you are playing with a beginner. 2D is obvious.

Ok Thx. It looked like a 6 carder to me. Yes, with 7 I also bid 3S, though I think Lall would have bid 3 with 6 only based on his posts.

Hoggy, what's up, you have been making exceptionally dogmatic statements in support of exceptionally bad bids lately.

You could post Justin's example hand as a poll, and see if the response is unanimous. (Hint: if so, it won't be 2 getting all the votes).
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.
