1. It seems to me that the only difference between 2/1 GF and 2/1 G unless suit rebid is that as a responder, if I have a good 6 card minor suit and 9-11 points -

2/1 GF : I have to bid 1NT and then bid 3m.

2/1 G unless suit rebid: I can bid 2m and then if possible bid 3m over partners bid.

So it seems to me that if responder does not hold the above hand (6 card minor and 9-11 points), then the responses to 1M are the same in both systems. Is this true?

2. One other question is whether 2/1 GF unless suit rebid applies to a 2H bid over 1S?

#1 depends, some play intermediade jump shifts, i.e. they will
bid 3m direct after 1M, if they have 9-11 with 6 cards
#2 depnds, we play it that way for symmetric reasons

With kind regards

I play 2/1 promises more so my 1nt includes alot more hands.

Basically with a long minor and invitational strength I have no perfect bid. I generally start with 1nt and rebid 2nt. With a very long minor I might rebid the minor at the three level. In practice this issue does not seem to cause much of a problem. Often rho overcalls so then I can just make a natural but nongame forcing 2/1 in the minor.

I also play BART 1s=1nt=2c=? which can help out a bit with these long minor suited hands.

That makes all my 2/1 bids 100% game force.

2) Probably not the same with hearts. There is a bigger incentive to play in the major games, and with major fits confirmed at the 3 level I want to embark on cue bidding, so I like to keep 2/1 GF for 1♠ 2♥.

With 1M 2m 2♥/♠ 3m it is no great loss for me to have this as invitational, as with a true GF I would rebid 4SF or 2NT, and partner with a fit may then support.
