If 2 Spade is a good raise to 3 Club (or better) you can bid 3 club with this hand without a second thought.

Trumps 4-0 behind the length.
No way to reach the ace of diamonds.
Unlucky that most people where not able to reach icecold 4 Heart on E/W..

I would be delighted to raise to 3C with this hand. How sad partner did not elect to pass, we may have defended 1S. Perhaps the trend is to o/c with this C suit, but this is not a very good bid even at pairs. 3 fast losers in the suit opened, along with an additional 3 fast H losers, this is a zero hunt.

I would always raise to 3♣ with the South hand. The actual result is very unlucky - for South. The North hand is not a vulnerable 2♣ overcall. Nonvul he might preempt 3♣, but that is a matter of style.

I wouldn't overcall 2♣ vulnerable.

♦ Kx and it becomes a nice minimum.

3♣ is fine and I think they make 4♥ though probably the field isn't bidding it.

I don't understand the criticism of North's overcall. The other thread where someone got a bad result from failing to overcall with AQJTx and king was at least understandable but this is ridiculous. Not bidding with North is losing bridge by quite a wide margin,

Hi,

the options are either Pass or 3C, if you have no conventional support,
I would go with Pass due to the bad quality of the points, make the Q / J
a king, and I would bid 3C.

i think overcalling at MP is clear. At imps its a matter of style maybe. But certainly i would not criticise it.

I'd raise for sure.

As for the O/C...well it turns MP into poker. I don't really hate it but the vulnerability may lead to -200 or more on part score hands and that isn't good.

At other times the opps may make the wrong choice or you buy the hand for a making 3♣ but good opps nail you lots more than fish do.

Bidding 2♣ over 1♠ doesn't do near the harm to the opp's bidding that 2♣ over 1♦ can do so I'd pass vulnerable rather than O/C here.

I would overcall 2C as North every day of the week.

OK, occasionally it may work out poorly. But a lot of the time I get a club lead when I need one, and that's worth its weight in gold.
