my partner turned out void in diamonds, and I got pulled out of 1NT into 2H.

The stopper rule is less important in this situation, but I'd hate for my partner to take his 15pts and bid 2NT to invite, where we lose 5 diamonds off the top.

So you then bid 4H? Yes?

well im posting in this thread with retroactive goggles.

In the actual deal, since our agreement was 1NT guarenteed stop, I bid 2D and then passed after my partner bid 2H

I understand, over the decades Jeff R of BW has been a huge advocate that:

1y=p=p=1nt does not promise a stopper in Y so:

as you read the forum you will see where jump shifts and strong reverses do not even 100% promise a real suit. :)

1y=x=p=1nt .....showing 100% a stopper goes out the window. :)

So if partner does have, say, Axxx Qxxxx - Axxx, should he:

A. Bid 1H originally instead of double
B. Pass 1NT
C. Accept -100 in 4H instead of +110 in 2H

I don't know the answer but it seems playable that a weak distributional doubler can pull 1NT and a hand too good to overcall can cue or jump.

In which case with the given responding hand a 3H call is obvious. Every honour card is working.

I think i prefer that 2M is GF. I can understand that the frequency of the take-out with a void is higher than a big hand too strong to overcall. But the risk and benefit isnt the same. Jumping/cuebidding with a great hand facing 8-10 pts is annoying for your slam bidding.

Maybe a good compromise is that 2m is a light take-out with void in opps suits. While the others bids remains powerful.

(1H)--------X---------(P)---------- 1Nt
(P)---------???

2m doesnt show strenght it just show a H void. (so that with) 4054 you bid 2D
2S is GF

option 2 is that only the cheaper minor is used to show the take-out with a void.
2C is 4054 or 4045
2D and + are strong.

Over
(1C)-----X-------(P)-------1Nt
(P)------???

2C can be used to show the club void instead of the cue-bid

Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."
