1N but I expect someone will insist on a real stop and prefer 1♠

If this is an awful choice for you, your choice should be:

Change your system, so that 1 NT does not show a stopper. You do not often need one for ONE NT. Even if they can cash 6 diamonds you can still make your contract.
Develop a later bidding where partner can ask for a real stopper and what to do after preempts and doubles.

After you did, you have no more awful choice, you simply bid 1 NT like anybody else.
Kind Regards

Roland

Well said Roland. Having stoppers for NT was one of the first, "must never be ignored", rules I learned and one of the hardest to forget.

Well the choices appear to be 1♥, 1♠, 1NT. The problem with the first 2 is they underbid your hand strength because of your shape. The 1NT bid does not have a stopper but with 4 cards in the suit I would use it over the first 2.

1NT. The closest other option would be 2♦. And it's not close.

1NT. Anything else is so distant as a second choice that those need not be even considered.

my partner turned out void in diamonds, and I got pulled out of 1NT into 2H.

The stopper rule is less important in this situation, but I'd hate for my partner to take his 15pts and bid 2NT to invite, where we lose 5 diamonds off the top.

others mentioned that an alert partner will bid, for instance, 2D instead of 2NT unless he, himself, has a diamond stopper.

(1d)=x=p=1nt
p=2h=p=?

I will try 4h now.

And I think that is closer to an underbid than an overbid.

After bidding 4♥ I would feel sure that I can write the '4' (as in 420, 450, 480) already on my score card.

since op didnt mention that 4H is cold, we will assume pard should have bid 1H the fist time, and made a bad, but lucky 2H removal --coupled with an EXTREMELY lucky pass by you.

So you then bid 4H? Yes?

well im posting in this thread with retroactive goggles.

In the actual deal, since our agreement was 1NT guarenteed stop, I bid 2D and then passed after my partner bid 2H
