Was playing online with a friend a while ago, random pick-up opponents, bbo jurisdiction, so law-wise somewhat of a wild west, non-the-less have a question...

held a modest opener with 4=1=6=2 shape.

auction went (opps silent)

1♦ - 1♥
1♠ - 4♦
5♦

at this point P typed something along the lines of "oops" to the table and then bid 5♠.

if this were a f2f table/tournament situation, what would my obligations be? Is it any different in the scenario above?

I'm guessing here but I'm thinking "oops" means "No partner, that wasn't support for diamonds, it was a splinter in support of spades." That is UI to you.

What did you think 4♦ meant when you bid 5♦. You must continue to think that. You can not use the UI to wake you up. So what would 5♠ be if 4♦ was in support of diamonds? A cue bid or some other sort of slam try? That is how you must proceede.

and if you had no explicit (or implicit) agreements and suspected when 4♦ was made that it was intended as a spade splinter even before the 'oops' ? Just kinda seems like a rock/hard place situation.. ugh...
