Some friends are highlighted in the CC list, some not. When I display their profiles, they then become highlighted (ie, in dark blue).

BTW, would be nice to have some graphic help which explains highlighting. I still don't know what gray text means, and red is unexplained.

The web-client does not "know" that a given user is your friend unless either that user is online or if you have already requested that user's profile.

Yes, we could make the web-client automatically ask for all profiles in situations like this, but one of the central goals of the web-client is to try to make life easier for our servers in the hope the BBO will continue to be able to function smoothly as our population of users continues to increase. We have therefore made some design decisions that result in what we hope is nothing more than a minor inconvenience to our users in an attempt to improve overall system performance when large numbers of people are online.
