X. Don't mind 1S too much either. Pass is very soft.

RHO opens 1♦. Do you bid 1♠ or dbl?

The old standards to go by is that you need 11pts to double in Direct seat for a takeout double that your partner can respond in a suit at the one level so.....1s for me....

If you prefer double here, npp.

This isn't a bad standard however at all levels the presence of a void creates addtional licence to act a little lighter.

I am doubling here as I have 4 card support for the unbids and my ♠ aren't terribly strong.

This is a double to me. We might be getting shot right out of the water on the next bid so we should get things in. It's basically a one bid-hand. People who bid 1S now and take an action later are misstating the overall strength.

I'm not sure what you're saying.

BW Standard stipulates a t/o double of 1C as " ♠A x x x ♥A x x x ♦Q x x x ♣x

is a minimum takeout double of one club with neither side vulnerable."

Everyone knows that with good shape you don't need an opening hand. I really don't see what your argument is. Maybe you think this hand is worse than that hand and the vulnerability makes a difference. Personally I think this hand is a better hand and the vulnerability doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

I doubled at the table and thought it clearcut, was suprised how many good players who I asked preferred 1♠. You really want to invite partner to bid a suit while the auction is still at a low level, which will leave you well-placed.

The auction proceeded

1♦-X-1♥-2♥
3♣-3♥-5♦-X
all pass

What would you lead?

♠Ace. Much less likely to be ruffed than ♥A. When partner doubles it is usually good to cash your own tricks fast.

Please explain the auction to me. My LHO's 1♥ bid was natural, correct?

What does my partner's 2♥ bid mean?

The answer to my previous question may answer this one, but what does my 3♥ bid show?

Our double of 1♦ was for takeout. The other ten calls were natural.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

♠A for me, seems fairly clear. It's not that I like the lead so much, I just hate everything else.
