Last board in a session, the slowest table - so surrounded with a crowd of impatient kibz. You (S) are in a spade contract, and the ending looks like this:

W is on the lead but before he plays you claim 4 tricks (declaring that you'll draw remaining trump after getting the lead). Almost immediately, before opponents say anything, one (the most impatient) of the kibz points that you conceede one more trick - after ♣ play and ♦ return on trump promotion.

Any ruling here? :P

Assuming the kibitzer is a player in the current competition then I fine him - twice the standard amount.

Assuming EW contest the claim, I rule on the claim: the line proposed by kitbitzer is a normal line which leads to one trick to the defence, so this is what I rule.

I agree.

Why is the director allowing the players to crowd around this table?

How about, "please step away and let this table finish"

Assuming the kibitzers are players, apart from the fine for the impatient one, I am somewhat tempted by DPs for all of them.

Declarer gets 3 tricks because his claim is deficient. The kibitzer who interfered would get told to leave if he was not playing in the event and fined a lot (2* standard does not seem enough to me because the offence is so gross) if he was a participant.

I could live with that: standard DP to all the kibitzers making nuisance of themselves, double DP to the one who interfered. Standard DP in England = double standard PP, so that feels about right.

I'm not convinced by fining all the kibbitzers. It's quite normal in most events I've played in for the late finishing tables at the end of an event to acquire quite a few spectators. As long as they behave themselves I don't think there's any problem with that.

Nor do I, but if they're "nuisances", there's a problem, even if they don't overtly interfere in the play. I would certainly act on a complaint from a player at the table.

What happens normally is that some of them do not behave themselves, since they talk. Furthermore they are standing up.

Lesser players are intimidated by this type of kibitzer and I think they should be controlled.
