3NT-4
4- 5NT
6-6

3NT showed a solid minor without much outside
4 asked for shortage
4 showed short hearts

What do 5NT, 6 and 6 mean?
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Sort of a weird auction...my instinct is:

5NT = Pick a slam
6 = My suit is not clubs.
6 = Pick between 7, and 7.

5NT says "what is your minor?".

6D says "diamonds".

6S says "we are playing in 6S".

Responder has 0-1 in the minors.

Lead your highest trump, hope opener is 1-1 in the majors, and that dummy's singleton spade doesn't win the first trick B)

Everything seems pretty standard to me up to the 6 bid. 5nt is bid 6 of your minor. 6 shows diamonds. 6 is pretty weird. My guess would be responder has 0 diamonds and 1 club and was hoping that the minor was clubs in which case 7 was going to be the call. Now they bid 6 to play. I pass and if it was supposed to be pick a grand like Tyler said then I fail the bidding test. That happens, I failed a bidding test in the NABC swiss in DC too.

This sequence didn't actually occur, but it does relate to a real hand. I suggested it when I was asked what I'd do with AKQxxx AKQxxx - x opposite a 3NT opener. Fred seems to have come close to writing down exactly that hand.

I think this is an auto diamond lead most of the time.

If a diamond lead would beat 6, why aren't they in 6?
