Your partner opens 1nt (playing 15-17)
You have A xxx AQJxxx KJx
What do you bid and why?
Is there any difference between playing 2/1 and sayc?

If you play 4-way transfers, you can bid 3 as transfer, after partner bids 3, you can show shortness 3. Partner may bid 3nt, but I definitely wouldn't stop there and cue bid 4.

In sayc to show minor slam interest, you have to bid stayman 2 first, then bid 3.

and if you dont play 4 way transfers and want to read up on it, the Walsh relays work for this type of slam hand....they start with a false transfer to hearts, and a relay to knock off the transfer...eventually showing broken minor with outside stuff, or solid minor.

I think transfer to diamonds and then 5NT. If partner understands, we could transfer and 4NT quantitative. If partner superaccepts, of course I won't look for 6NT or something. I wouldn't show my stiff ace, I don't think it helps partner much.

BTW try to put the suit symbols before the suit, or better still don't put them in at all (at least for me, it was a little confusing).
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

1N:2 (transfer to minor)
3:4/ slam interest in minor, 3 is weak (corrected)

I play this in sayc and 2/1

That would be a great method: your partner bids 2C so incredibly smoothly that the opponent doesn't notice, and passes to accept the bid :-)

The problem with playing 2S as for a minor, is that 3D must be to play, so you'd have to bid 4D, going past 3NT...

What's with all this artificial stuff?
I would bid 3D, showing a single-suited slam try in diamonds.
Not only would I do that in the B&I forum, but I would do it at the table as well.

That would be good but many over a 15-17NT use it for a game-invitational bid showing 6 and less than 8 HCP :(

At least here in North America, 3 level bids as natural, regardless of strength, seems to largely have gone the way of the dodo. Those bids are commonly used to show many 2 and 3 suiters.

As a general point of hand evaluation, I'm forcing to slam on this hand unless it becomes obvious that we're off two aces.

Playing SAYC, I have *no forcing minor suit bid*, as all ways of showing a long minor are either weak (2) or invitational to 3NT (3/3), so I do it the only way the system allows, G----r. This should not make placing the contract overly difficult.

Playing a typical sort of expertish 2/1, I'd bid 2NT (Transfer to ), and follow it up with keycard.

If I'm feeling REALLY fanciful, a transfer to hearts might lead to some interesting auctions, since that's actually the suit I'm most interested in, but I'm not going to explore that demented line furthur in B/I....

You can get away with this plan if the suit you pretend to have is lower-ranking than the one you actually have.

Hi,

#1 there is no difference between SAYC and 2/1, because this is
not a 2/1 auction
#2 with no special agreements, your best bet is to start with 3D,
which should be natural and game forcing
If 3D is NF, than you have already discussed this, i.e. you know,
how to show diamonds in a forcing manner.

Really? Almost everybody here in Lancaster play 3m as invitational (most play weak notrump).

Is this IMPs or MPs?

I suspect that I would simply punt 6N at MPs (why give them the chance to double for lead, or get information about partner's hand?)

At IMPs, I'd be much more willing to explore strain and level...
