afaik, we don't auto-unregister missing pairs before a tourney begins. We do toss out these pairs as the tourney begins, of course (ie, if you are not online when your T starts, you are unregistered).

I can understand why a TD would push the 'unregister missing pairs' button a couple of mins before T-start.

I can also understand OPs ire, but IMO, this was not a big deal. There are plenty of Ts, free and otherwise. Inappropriate use of the 'unregister missing pairs' button, if the term applies, is not a major transgression.

I pointed out that sniwas1 is a regular Swangames member where he also posts long speeches mainly praising and thanking its owner, a lady called Laila.

It is a universal law, that it’s necessary to use the same rule to qualify persons, objects or events and most of all, human behaviors.

Sniwas accepts all the failures of the obsolete programs in Swangames, its paid TD’s private lessons offers, TDs who then direct the tournaments where these students participate, and even so, he pays a fee to play there.

On the contrary, he plays for free in BBO, and considers himself a full member with the capacity to criticize methods and volunteer TDs.

Sniwas pays to play in swan and profits, for free, of BBO’s advantages and generosity without thanking them.[/SIZE]

It seems lady_bb has ire against swan and is envious of its owner.

I don't wish to say more about her post, as it does not tackle the main issue but diverts to something irrelevent. I shall ignore her further posts if any.

I am sorry, Uday, that, you have skirted the main issue.

Sniwas, I do not understand what you think BBO should do.

Maybe the guy eliminated offline pairs at 4 minutes instead of 2 minutes. It has happened to me that I was eliminated because I lost connection at that crucial moment, and one time when I was at a teaching table and the tournament does not pull you from a teaching table.

The other day I believed i was signed up for a game and then i was not seated, the TD was puzzled too, bbo tds cannot pick and choose who to eliminate from a game.

I know you have a busy schedule, but really not much was lost, play some at the main club or something.

Even at paid sites sometimes tds are late, or their primitive software cause tournaments to assign pairs or movements wrong, and you might be in hurry to leave. Do you complain there?

Let it go, if God spare life there will be bridge tomorrow.

Well said everyone!

Reading through this thread, I do have some comment.

As I understand Sniwas1 has two issues here:

1. The starting list had been cleansed from absent players not only the entirely accepted 2 minutes before, but perhaps even 4 minutes before.
Probably a minor matter, as a cleansing as such IS apparently useful.

2. The TD said the cleansing was automatic, while apparently it was not, TD did it himself. Thus a untruth, even a lie.
Telling untruth is never nice.
Thus, this is the major matter here.

Right?

Now.

We had seen in this thread, Sniwas1 is very polite, he does have a point, he may even be entirely right. But he does also have maany lenghy posts about an essentially minor cause. Even although everybody including several staff members very friendly assures him this is really not any big problem.

A not too daring guess is, Sniwas1 behaves something alike talking with that TD.
Of course, this is not easy for the TD. The TD is probably not idle waiting for pleasant chatting, but probably does several things at once, having to talk to several persons... (This is also probably the reason he did buyed himself some extra time by cleansing a little earlier than strictly necessary.)
Now. He is about to lauch the tournament, and so Sniwas1 comes in complaining. Leeenghy complaining.
I for one understand the TD telling in this situation a little white lie...

A speculation, but sounds for me very plausible. :)

Not sure it was a lye, rather a misunderstanding.

When Uday says that BBO does not purge offline players, he means: The TD has to press the button. The decision to purge offline players is with the TD.

When the TD says BBO does it he means that it is beyond his control which individuals get purged: he just pressed a button and then some players get purged. He did not name Sniwas1 specifically as someone who should be purged.

Of course I don't know. The TD could be deliberately lying, but I would not draw that conclusion based on what has come up in this thread.

Thank you Tola18 for balanced comments. Your analysis is very correct.

Many have expressed that, the manner in which TD acted is not big deal. However my perspective is much different from theirs.

I would like to clarify on one point however. I got in touch with the TD after the tourney began, not when TD was about ot launch it. I did not know who TD was; so I had tried to send chat to the Host, but got the message that, he was either not on line or was invisible.

I would repeat that, even if the TD would have told me that, unregistering us was a genuine mistake/error and was unintentional, the matter would not have come to such a pass. However, TD chose otherwise and BBO's clarfication shocked me.

I think it would be better now to put this matter to rest.

People who live in glass houses...If you yourself have never ever told a small white lie in times of stress (and just because the tourney had started does NOT mean the TD was sitting drinking margaritas ) then you are entitled to say something, perhaps, but this obsessing is really over the top.

It's simple. Don't register and then disappear.

Just as TD's have responsibilities so do players, to their pards, to the TD's and to the other players in the tourney. Many people don't think about or care what it means for the TD and other players to be faced with a multitude of empty seats of players who are awol at the tourney start for whatever reason. Also, you could try being appreciative that people are donating their time and energy to provide the tourney in the first place and stop being such a jerk, trying to get them in trouble for such a thing.

Or, if nobody lives up to your standards, volunteer to run tourneys yourself.

I'm confused about why you are upset with BBO. They did not lie to you, the Td did. ...and I'm confused about why you are not upset with the TD that did lie to you. It seems you are putting the blame for the lie on the only one that told you the straight truth. I also think that instead of complaining to BBO about what the TD (that you seem to love) did to you that you should complain to the host of the tournament about what his TD did to you. If the TD that lied to you is worth salvaging (which you seem to suggest), it appears the TD just needs to be made aware that (s)he was caught in the lie by the tourney host and educated in how to handle this situation.

I just found this thread. Sniwas is the unofficial (or maybe official) Swan cheerleader, so please take that into consideration.

I am amazed at how this is even a matter, some players are sometimes really unappreciative of the work that BBO TDs have to do.

If we get missing players, the other players at the table yell at us.

If we kick out the missing players and they reconnect, some of them yell at us for subbing them out.

And now it seems, if we remove offline players a few minutes before the tournament starts, we get yelled at as well.

Maybe everyone will be happy when all the TDs who host free tournaments eventually quit due to the amount of stress placed by them on everyone.

To OP, get on with it. This may or may not be a misunderstanding. Making a mountain out of a molehill is not going to get you anywhere other than just making yourself angry and frustrated. Also, you might be better off registering for the next free tourney instead.

Rossoneri makes excellent points as to what a free, volunteer TD often endures...and players are surprised that there are more and more limitations as to who can register (no enemies, friends, language, country etc...) and fewer fewer free tourneys....but I digress....

Back to Sniwas1 - if I read his first post right, he joined July 30,09 and his first post was also on July 30, 09 at 05,30...I can only wonder if in 5 hours and 29 minutes of BBO experience, he has had the time to truly appreciate BBO as a whole and its possibilities for bridge lovers of all levels around the world.
It is a priviledge to have BBO and also a priviledge to play here.

So a TD stretched the truth - BIG DEAL! Theoretically it was BBO that removed the offline players...the TD clicked on the button and the software did the rest...
maybe all the players clocks were not synchronized...

Just had to get my 2cents in on this non issue.

If it was a large tournament then there might have been two, three, or even four directors, and any one of them could have purged the pairs who were not in BBO at that moment. Your director could have been telling you the truth.

Keep in mind that in your particular tournament there was apparently a limit to the number of pairs allowed to join. In tournaments like those, it does indeed make good sense to purge those pairs who are not in BBO to make room for those pairs who they know are there and ready to play.

Come early and stay there :)
