I use 2NT in this sequence to also show raise.

There are four raise types most consider. 3-card limit, 4-card limit, 3=card GF, and 4-card GF. How to split these up between the two options (2NT and cue) is uncertain. I hear that Meckwell has bounced around in this regard.

You could have, for example, one be 3+ limit and one 3+ GF. You might also have one 3-card limit+ and the other 4-card limit+. You could have 2NT as 3-card limit and cue as 3+ GF or 4-card limit.

I personally prefer 2NT as limit and cue as GF, 3+ in either event. Seems easier to remember, somehow.

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

We play:

1 (2)

2 6-9 3(4) card raise

2NT 7-9 or GF 4-card raise

3 Invitational 4-card raise

3 4-7 4-card raise

1 (2) - we lose the weakest raise when there is no cue-bid

2NT 6-9 or GF 4-card raise

3 Invitational

3 GF but with distribution usually stiff spade

(1) 1 (3) X = takeout

Note we play 4-card majors so most good three card raises go through a negative double.
