Scoring: MP

Note, this is matchpoints and you are vul if either matter. You are playing Standardish American.

Partner opens 1H, you bid 1S, partner rebids 2C, back to you.

I show this not so much because i think the choice is difficult, I think it is pretty clear. I show it because of the wide number of different rebids South found at the table. I was hoping people would make a bid and EXPLAIN their choices.

2S, This is likely to be a misfit hand. If partner doesn't have extras, playing 2S is right

Spade spots aren't great, and this screams missift so much that I'd bid 2.

Some players play that a 3D bid here would show this hand type. Playing a norml 2/1 style I simply bid 2S. This hand reeks of a misfit.

The worst case scenario is a 5-2 fit in hearts with two aces on the side and sure ruffing values in partners second suit.

So I would not be as pessimistic as the rest.

I go for 2 followed by 3 when this shows 5/5 inivitational or for a direct 3 diamond when this shows my hand.
Kind Regards

I am going to assume you can't show a 5-5 invitation (I can't in my prefered system) because if you could it seems obvious to do. In that case I would bid 2 and force to game. I am not seeing the misfit everyone else sees, in fact unless partner is exactly 1525 (or something strange like if 5-6 is allowed) then we are guaranteed to have a fit somewhere. I understand this hand may be tough to play even with a fit, but 2 and 2 both contain a great risk of playing in the wrong suit. 2 can miss spades, 2 can miss hearts, and both of those bids can miss diamonds. And that's aside from them both being underbids. At least bidding 2 now pretty much guarantees we can find the best strain.

If I could use 3 to show this hand (if I don't play splinter it could be considered that) I would use it. If not I would have to bid 2 and maybe 3 over 3 and probably 2 over 2.

Hi,

I wont pass, I will at least invite.

Since I guess 2D is GF, this is not an option, because I can bid 3D,
also gf, but at least I am showing both suits.
I also guess, that 2S is just weak with a 6 card suit, not inv., so it is
either 3S (inv. with 6 spades) or 3D.

I would go with 3D, since the spade suit could be better and 3D will
at least enszre, that we will play our best fit.

I bid 3 since 2 is fsf to game for me and 3 is natural and invitational.

Pfft, I meant 2 when I clicked on 2, sorry.

It is important to reiterate on my 6 cards major. I'd do this even if it wasn't MP's, but now I am even less concerned of missing a borderline game. I wouldn't rebid a five cards suit, so partner is in the clear.

2 is easy for me, since it shows about 8-11. (With the same distribution and less strength, I would bid 2.)

Thus, according to the agreement that I like to have, pass and (false) preference are the weakest possible actions. Rebidding your suit is somewhat stronger and the fourth suit followed by rebidding your own suit (or rebidding the fourth suit) is forcing to game. This style works very well with weak jump shifts (about 4-7 HCPs), but it is not necessary to play weak jump shifts for this style to work well.

I am with the responders who go heavy with the 2D GF on this one, even if I had 3D available to show this distribution and an invite. After:

1H 1S
2C 2D
?
I might find out something to help decide where the game will be played. When I overbid, It is better to make partner play it (in HTS or NT). She plays the hands better when she is pissed.

I agree.

By the way, what is 3 for you?

I play a jump in the 4th suit as a 5-5 game force (yes I could use it on this hand but I didn't want to introduce my own minority method into the discussion).

I use bidding the 4th suit and then rebidding it as further ambiguity, in other words not the right shape / stoppers to do anything else. So if I bid 2 on this auction then 3 over 3 it would most likely be 5242 with no diamond stopper, although 5233 and 5143 are both candidates if I don't want to bypass 3NT. If partner's third bid was 2NT and I did it, that would just show four good diamonds and be a further investigation.

Incidentally I think this combination of treatments is quite far superior than using anything as a 5-5 invite. But I have only my own feeling about that, not much at the table evidence.

I play almost identical methods. Jump in 4th suit is GF and repeat of the fourth suit is something else. In addition to what you say on some auctions we would play the repeat of the fourth suit as a general cue-bid for (almost always) partner's last bid suit when we do not have the opportunity to agree the suit below game. General Cue just means we don't promise a specific control but are too strong to simply raise to game. e.g.

1 2
2 3* 4th suit
3 4** Good spade raise

Since 4 and 4 would be natural.

4 would already show some slam interest.

4 would not necessarily since the additional information that partner has six spades maybe the only reason we can raise spades.

in my favorite method ill bid 2D multi inv (with pass and correct responses)

over 2H ill bid 2S inv and over 2S (accepting H but not S) we will play 4H.

In standard i think ill go 3H inv. Where i live partner is more likely to have a 6th H than having 3S.

2H is 2nd choice.
