When would you do what with this hand? (seat, colors, scoring).
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I know I will be LOLed at for this but I prefer a preempt style that does not depend (much) on vulnerability in 1st/2nd seat. At least at matchpoints.

So 2♥ is generally enough for me except of course 3rd seat nonvul.

2♥ unless in 3rd seat nonvul. Might even be tempted to pass this at first/2nd seat when vulnerable.

first and second seat I have 3 people to worry about, and don't think 2H is helpful to my center opponent. Not that I think a pass is that great either, but as mentioned in other strings, sometimes a favorable swing can be created when one is silent and the opponents are unaware. And maybe partner will open, the opponents will be silent, and we can have a nice auction, partner knowing I didn't have a starting preempt that fit nicely into our style.

3♥, and I don't think it's close. Are the 2♥ bidders looking at the same hand? Seems impossibly timid to me. Pass is better than 2♥.

At IMPs:

1. White vs. white: 3♥ all seats (note: all implies 1st, 2nd, 3rd)
2. White vs. red: 3♥ all seats
3. Red vs. red: 2♥ all seats
4. Red vs. white: 2♥ in 1st or 3rd seat. May pass in 2nd seat

At Matchpoints:
3♥ all seats, and all vulnerabilities

Usually a weak 2 but I'll pass r/w in 2nd. I'll open 3♥ w/r in 1st and 3rd.

i'd never open 3. 7222 and a suit that is Q222222 make this hand pretty awful. I might open 2, but probably not red. I think this hand is too weak for a vul weak 2; it's pretty poor offensively.

Mech - what a pile of dren. Might open 3♥ 3rd seat w/r.

Might open 2♥ if I was playing that in other seats - but I usually play multi and I don't have a poor suit/min type of response to 2NT - so I really don't like this hand for 2♦.

Nick

P.S. Later edit - I suppose I might be tempted with 2♦ multi in 3rd seat at equal.

Hi,

I wont pass.

In first and 2nd seat being red vs. green: 2H:
At all other positions / vulnerability - 3H

In third position green vs. red: a 4H preempt can occur.

With kind regards

I would always pass in second seat, otherwise the same for me.

red = 2 1,3 seat. pass in 2\4

To bid 3 red = simply crazy , bidding 2 is already dangerous .

white = 3 in 1,3 seat and 2 in 2nd.

2♥ is plenty with that suit (all vulnerabilities), 1st through third and I'm somewhat ashamed to bid it in 2nd.

From a scientific point of view:
You have 7.5 losers and a bad suit. This means that vulnerable you always PASS.

7.5 losers means that you may bid 3♥ white / red but not at any other colors.
all white I would open 2♥ in 1st and 3rd, and pass in 2nd due to the terrible suit.
