Currently, it's hard to find others playing the same niche systems, eg, Precision, ACOL, Blue Club, etc. You only find out when you look at each profile.

Why not have a search function for user profiles? Preferably regular expressions (eg <Prec*> ) but even plain text would help.

Alas, no reply.

Ideally, I would like to have a search "tab" (like Friends, Kibitizers, stars, ...) for current players which show the matches for an intelligent search which would allow you to enter search strings for all the profile fields:
- user name
- real name
- country
- skill level
- Player's notes
- your notes on player

Regular expressions would be ideal, but even uncased substrings would be nice.

We read all posts to this Forum, but we do not respond to all of them.

Hi,

I'm relatively new to playing on BBO (have been watching some vugraphs for a couple of years though), and I support the suggestion made by tOM: it's very difficult to find people you know (from the 'real' world) on BBO, thanks to the possibility of using nicknames (or worse) for an username.
So, a search function to find people by their real names (or systems, indeed) would really help.

Despite not responding to each and every request, maybe someone could give us a hint whether such a feature is planned in the near future or not.
Thanks a lot!

Regards, Fred

If someone makes a suggestion that we plan to implement soon we will typically say something about it.

It would not surprise me if we were to implement some kind of search function at some point, but we have no plans to do it soon. Plans change all the time.

Useful suggestion.

Although you CAN go around this, sort of.

Be a green (=wanting to play), with your profile thus visible for all to see.

Chances are good those who contact you / invite you to play do like your profile, either because of the system or because of your name. :)

There presently is a club for ACOL players. Perhaps you could start one for Precision players if there isn't one already and that is your thing?

One of the charms of BBO is that it doesn't make it so easy to stick in your own niche, but through its structure encourages interaction across many groups. I have stumbled into meeting people I am now privileged to call friend I likely never would have met otherwise.

Imo it would be a shame if this were to change.

IMHO the way to let people find their non-BBO friends on BBO is to make use of email lists, like facebook does it. I wouldn't give it a high priority, though. There is also a privacy issue here. For some, allowing other people to find them on the basis of an email address may feel as a security leak.

Searching profiles manually would not be very interesting for most users I think.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
