For those of you who play xyz along with reverse flannery, what is the difference here or what do you feel the difference should be?

1c=1s
1nt=2h

or

1c-1s
1nt=2c!
2d!=2h

I play it as gwnn said.

I am pretty sure meckwell play 2H direct as forcing, and a specialized NMF where opener doesn't have to show 4 card heart suits (for concealment purposes).

For this thread please assume:

1minor=2h shows......4h and 5 spades and less than invite but not silly weak.

1minor=1s
1nt=2c!
2d!=2h shows........5 spades and 4h invite.

i will be spokesman for stupid people. We don't play xyz, and choose to just read the other comments, and learn why it is so great. but I don't think I will ever learn why flannery, or the reverse is so great. Will just remain stupid about that.

An interesting question.

I play reverse Flannery responses with one partner. As a consequence, I can play a really simple checkback structure. After 1m-1; 1NT, we play 2 as a simple checkback, only focussing on spades and the range. (This is similar to 1m-1; 1NT, where opener should not have spades and we can focus on the hearts.) If we have a GF hand with 5(+) and 4(+), we can just bid 1m-1; 1NT-2.

With another partner, I play xy NT (or xyz as you call it), but no reverse Flannery responses.

While I like both conventions a lot, I don't really see the need to play both conventions simultaneously. But if I would, I would play:

1m-1; 1NT-2 as natural and game forcing
1m-1; 1NT-2; 2-2 as the equivalent of 1m-1; 1NT-2; 2-2, but with spades instead of hearts.

What meaning do you have for 1m-1; 1NT-2; 2-2?

Assume for this thread that in xyz.....2c forces 2d, any bid after that is natural and good invite.

so:

1minor=1s
1nt=2c!
2d!=2s=invite with 6s.

I doubt that:
1minor=1h
1nt=2c!
2d!=2s has ever come up. Opener raises often but not 100% on 3 card support and almost never would bypass 4s here to rebid 1nt though in theory I suppose you could invent one.
