Any other Backgammon players around? I've been playing for about 2 weeks now, already throughly addicted.

I used to play when I was young. My dad made a bunch of money playing backgammon in the army, so we both think it's a good game, but as we are both very competitive people, but don't enjoy beating each other, we don't play anymore.
My addiction to Mario Bros #3 has come back!

I learned when I was in China from watching Chubukov/Mayefsky. Lost a lot of money to Clee.... but I definitely still enjoy it a lot! Of course my non-bridge-playing friends (99%) also don't play backgammon

Used to play at Chess Palace in southern California in a chouette that included Dan Harrington, who went on to win the World Series of Poker main event (and made the final table another year). Hell of a backgammon player.

when i was in the navy i supplemented my income with backgammon, cribbage, poker, and other games... that was quite some time ago, however (and yeah, harrington at one time was one of the best bg money players in the world)

There's a BBO poster that's among the best in the world - and considered by some to be the best. I have no idea whether he'd want his identity revealed, but I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was a director of a large tournament in Boston several years ago. (And I have no doubt he could clobber Harrington, although they're both excellent players.)
But yeah, I'll echo the rest. Great game. I ran the New England Backgammon Club for several years, and got to know some of the best in the game - Bill Robertie, Walter Trice, Herb Gurland, Marty Storer - and several other champs who visited from out of town. Were it not for the poker boom, I believe that backgammon would've seen another renaissance, similar to its heyday in the 70s.

Backgammon brings back memories of the Vietnam War, and backgammon by the pool at the Officers Club at Anderson AFB, Guam. There's a lot more to that story....
