Red vs white:

♠KJT42
♥54
♦65
♣AKT9

You're ready to open 1♠ but your RHO was the dealer and did just that!

1♠ Pa 2♠ X
Pa ???

What do you do now? You're playing imp's, would you do something else if you were playing MP's?

Easy pass at Imp's.

Anxious pass at MP's. (Because partners double can be quite a stretch.)

I find passing on this auction tends not to get the huge numbers you hope for. But seriously, what else?

I'd say the odds of a set exceed 95%.

Pass.

Anxious pass at mp's?? Seriously, partner doubled, you have two defensive tricks and KJTxx of trump.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Maybe anxious is to strong a word, but partner doesn't promise the world in the live seat.

Just imagine:

♠ -
♥ Kxxx
♦ QJxx
♣ QJxxx

Of course this is quite pessimistic, but getting only 100, when we have a better partial, is also a risk.

The pass is still obvious though.

Gee, I don't think it would be anywhere near that high. However I also don't see a huge alternative.

Hi Ron,

having your pestimistic day today?

Partner doubled in a live auction and we seem to have 4 tricks even when all spade honours are behind us.

I would rate the chance of setting with 98 % as long as partner is no joker who doubles with a hand worse then Oles example.
Kind Regards

Roland
