Scoring: IMP

(p)-p-(p)-1NT
X(DONT)-XX(points)-2-p
2-p-(p)-X

What does this X mean?
Will you pass or bid ?

I think this is one of those situations where double should mean the same from either side of the table.

Since you had the chance to make a take out double of and didn't, then your partnership must be playing penalty doubles, so his double must be penalty.

Or to put it another way, if his double is take-out, then you have already misbid by failing to make a take-out double yourself.

Penalty
your redouble said to partner lets try to catch them, if they run into my suit i will double, if they run into yours pls do the same, and he just did. this doesnt necessary mean you have to pass it.

Depend of agreements. Best one in forcing situation established by rdbl is Garozzo 2/3 double - Direct dbls are optional, while one from balancing position is take out or penalty. If you play same way, dbl on 2H is take out or penalty and p must guess what kind it is. In example you must guess it is penalty and pass.

My feeling is that in this kind of situation all doubles are penalty, passes are forcing.

You didn't have a t/o double of 2 but the pass itself was sort-of take-out because partner is forced to choose over it, and he chose to double. He could have bid 2 holding them. With a hand that has clubs partner would have doubled 2.

Of course partner might have Qxxx in hearts yet 2 might be unbreakable.

Totally agree with you. That is the simplest and imo best way to play XX, exactly the same would happen if you double an 'unnatural' overcall, such as 2 majors, or 2 1 major. It creates a forcing sequence for us, where we either double them or play the hand.

Agreed. But also, most agree that if you pull partner's penalty double after you have redoubled then you are in a GF situation. Are you ready for that, on this hand?

I don't play RDbl as "points" because it sucks :D Anyway, the Dbl is penalty, and if not you should search a new partner or make better agreements :)

I open light and was a passed hand so I think my hand quailified as a XX. I agree it is a little light, but hey live by the sword...

I was playing this hand with a good pd, but this was one of our first times playing. So it was undiscussed.
