The nice thing about matchpoints is that you cannot get worse than a zero.

It seems that you are heading for a zero if you stay put in 2♥. So you might as well run to 3♦.

I think you are not without hope for five tricks and that they can make a game.

The 2♣ opener is unlikely to have five hearts so there is a chance that partner will give you some hearts and something else useful. If not then they might have a slam and you only need a couple of tricks.

It may depend on the opponents but certainly some opponents frequently misjudge in this sort of situation.

You will know that if partner passes. If he looks at you like you are an idiot and converts back to 3♥, I suppose you will also know that you are in the right strain then. :rolleyes:

I'd worry about that only if pard is a beautiful lady whom I'm particularly interested in, in which case I'll make up some excuse to mess up things at table, so that I can take a peek at LHOs cards... lol.

Under more normal circumstances I'd say one could as well look like an idiot if pard shows up with 4+ diamonds :)
