I'd want better hearts for a direct overcall with only four cards.

1NT.
How can showing a balanced hand with 15-17 and a stopper be wrong?

Why would 1 implying 5 cards (which I don't have), which has a much wider hcp range be better?

I meant it the way you think I think it means.

I was using it in a rather broad, metaphorical sense.

This problem, unlike the AK xxxx Axxxx xx hand, belongs in the B/I forum.

It's an obvious 1N.

I assume that 1N didn't work out, since otherwise why on earth post the hand?

Well, it means "according to Han..." which is a good start of a sentence but rather incomplete to be used in a metaphorical sense.

If not 1NT, which is obvious, I'd rather bid 2. Might as well wreak havoc on the opponents also if you are insisting on wreaking havoc on partner.

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."
