I would bid 4♠ at equal or favorable, however at unfavorable I am passing.

... and maybe you should have bid 4D the round before,
although now you know, they bid 4H with the serious
intention to make.

I would have bid 4D the round before. Then I have told my story and it is up to partner. 3D is not enough I think even red against white.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.
