It seems to me that by cheating what you really do is cheat yourself because if you win you can't have any sense of accomplishment.

for some gaming the system is its own reward.

In the case where one opp asked the other if their webcam was on - they did this on table chat? I would just about guarantee they don't cheat. They probably just like to chat between hands.

I should have been more on the ball that day and asked why they were using the webcam, maybe they were using msn and had mistakenly used the chat bar. Too late now, I can't even remember their names.

Just one further note, Bridge has a a history of cheaters long before Internet Bridge, world class players who used various signals to alert their partners about what they were holding and what to lead. There are lots of articles on the Internet about these players and their methods that make very interesting reading. One can almost understand the motive at the level of International Tournaments, especiallly if money is involved, however, I still believe it comes down to personal integrity and in a lovely paradox those who win by cheating are really losers.

I know the prospect of playing from the same IP as my wife worried me greatly when I first started on BBO.

The suspicions are accusations are somewhat inevitable, especially on an anonymous forum such as the internet.

I look forward to the day that I'm skilled enough to be accused of cheating. :)
Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.

I'm generally one who likes to avoid any appearance of impropriety. But, I don't really understand the concern about possible cheating in the main bridge club. If my wife were inclined to play, I would have no qualms about playing from the same house.

I don't have any worries about opponents who might be playing from the same ISP, building or even room. If my opponents are cheating, I suspect, and it affects my enjoyment of the game, I will just find a new game.

A few months ago I got a message from my partner while we were playing: "we play 1430, right?" I answered. I don't have a problem with my opponents saying such things at the table and I didn't have a problem with my partner asking me. I would have thought differently about things if this had happened during a ACBL game because the expectation there is different.

From time to time I chat about non-bridge matters with partner or an opponent while we are playing at the same table. Sometimes it seems polite to do this privately and an external chat mechanism (such as gmail or AIM) is often easier. As long as it isn't slowing down the game I don't have any problem with opponents doing the same.

I really don't see what the fuss is about.

For me, if I fire up two machines on the same IP, and log onto BBO, it's for system testing purposes. I find it a lot easier for me to actually program some hands, see how the flow works, and then adjust as needed. That way I can tell Larry what I've found out, and speed up things.

If anything I think I'd play worse with two PC's side by side, than with Larry across the proverbial table....

[FONT=Arial][B][I][COLOR=blue] When I signed up my pard, i went to his house with my laptop and signed in to his internet. We sat at the same table, opposite each other so we were unable to see each others screen. As he had questions before the game I showed him how to chat and toggle and such. It was very helpful being there playing together. I will admit a few times as I figured out a finesse or such that I would out loud mouth got you now succer, and pard would laugh. But it was already known from points or bidding, and was funny for us both. We are trying to be competitive to compete in sectionals and regionals where there is no cheating allowed, technically, so why would I want to start off by cheating? It helps afterwards for a few quick words like don't lead that way, or should have bid this way or that and is much quicker than typing it out? I think more should play together that way and get talking how to improve after the hand instead of wasting time typing it. Seeing positives on scores helps me to feel good, or to see bad score to see how to improve it. I have no need to cheat, for I only cheat myself. I agree if you suspect it, cannot hurt to report it. If enough do then all logs and private messsages can be reviewed for possible cheats. Thanks BBO for a great site, and all your hosts have been very helpful, especially the 2 times I reported abuse they said it was taken care of. I am happy, and think the best of all my opos unless shown different. If I kibitzed and saw the hand and joined I tell them. Period! Don't worry be happy!
