Are these things really that important if you're playing in a tourney and using dial-up

1. Disabling Call Waiting.

2. Using the best access numbers for my area.

They say that disabling call waiting decreases my chances of getting logged off from my ISP and using the best access numbers slightly speeds up my connection and slightly decreases my chances of getting logged off from my ISP, but are things a must do if I'm wanting to play in a BBO tourney? Or, would it just be curtious to do these things if I'm signing up for tourneys.

Thanks!

I’d say it would be prudent for your own benefit but I don’t know of anyone saying you must do it. It would be courteous to tell the TD if you do have connection problems so that they can wait longer before subbing you and they will then know not to add you to the list of deserters.

I would just inform the director that you have a bad connection. My other recommendation would be to get rid of Dial-Up :P.
Yay for the "Ignored Users" feature!

Strongly recommend broadband of some sort, if at all possible.

You don't need to do these just to play in BBO tourneys, but for your own personal internet enjoyment, you may want to use the best access number as much as possible. Less frustration for you.

It's frustrating to your partner, the opponents, and the TD if you get disconnected. So it's simply common courtesy to do what you can to make this less likely.

If you get disconnected frequently, TDs are likely to ban you, since dealing with your problems is more trouble than it's worth. If you want to avoid this, you should follow the recommendations.

But in the end it's your decision, you don't HAVE to do anything.

Strongly recommend not playing in tourneys if bad connection (known ahead of time it is bad) because it often inconveniences so many others. Barring exceptional circumstances, you can get a better/faster connection than dial-up quite easily. Or play at open tables with people who can tolerate your bad connection.
