LHO has four spades to two honours.

It gets trickier now, but I still have a few chances. Drive out a spade honor and see what RHO discs.

If you play three rounds of spades, RHO throws a club that shows an even number. LHO wins and plays another heart.

Well, take the ♥A and drive out the last spade. If LHO continues hearts, I'll cash both my hearts and play a club up, making if the club ace is on my left. I don't think LHO will have 5 hearts, since he'd got 4 spades as well.

What did you discard on the second, third and fourth rounds of spades?

That's what I did (two diamonds first, then ♣K as I gave LHO his second spade trick). LHO nodded admiringly at my flawless technique, then led a club. Dummy's queen lost to the ace, and I went two down when everyone else went down only one.

At the time this seemed obviously the right play - how else does one get into the bulletin? In retrospect, however, I think it was unwise. With spades 4=2, the club is more likely to be offside than not, and the entire field is going to be in 3NT or 4♠, so extra undertricks are certain to be expensive.
