Scoring: XIMP

P-P-1-4
5-AP

Down 6 after the defenders made a diamond ruff and declarer followed by blowing into the now-stiff K.

What Josh meant is:

1. 4 is not good with so much defense. That's not partnership bidding. BTW if you bid like this anyway, you are forced into doubling 5 yourself.
2. 5 is not good, whatever
3. I disagree with Josh that West could have done something. If partner just has 8 Hearts, how would we hope to beat this?

If partner thinks 4 is a good idea and I were west, I might think 5 is a good idea. Of course not if he has AKQxxx of hearts like people in the other thread...

Josh you know the difference between 1H - p - 3H - 4S and 1C - 4H.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

The other thread we were red on red, not adverse. And we had a side 5 bagger!

Still, I agree with Josh's comments about 4. Its a poker bid and East needs to double 5 (or 4, which is what you really expect when you bid 4).

I don't mind West's pass. We have some defense against 5. 5 could be right, but only if we are making 5, or 5 is -1 when 5 is making. Both seem very unlikely.

When I read this hand last night in a tired state, I thought the main villain was South. 5 is easily the worst call made at the table.

Yes yes I was a little tongue in cheek. One day I'll learn self control.

But if you don't think west should bid 5 then he should definitely double. They might be making, but partner bid to the 4 level r/w, I'm not defending undoubled at the 5 level holding an ace and a king.
