The 3♠ bid may include a red stopper, but usually not both. Pard acts accordingly.

5♣ is much more pragmatic than 3♠, which rates to be the unlucky expert bid. But hey, I've seen Rodwell doing it.

What have you seen Rodwell do exactly? Make the 3♠ bid, or make it on a hand with no outside stoppers? I remember neither such hand from Zia's book.

Does that apply if partner has the ace of diamonds and clubs are 2-1-2 around the table, so they don't even have a game?

It was a similar hand, but with hearts instead. Played in some Pakistan-USA final.

It turned into an opening lead problem, as you set it with an unusual, though logic, lead (not found at table).

I'll flip through the book tonight. I have my doubts that he would do such a thing with a long minor and no outside cards at all, but who knows maybe I forgot.
