Playing 4 card majors and a weak NT (UK Acol style)

Pass - 1♠ - pass - pass
dbl - pass - pass - ?

I think, in hindsight, this is a WTP pass, but are there any SOSers out there?

Maybe it depends on who my opponents are? But usually yes I would XX. I've learnt that when the opponents penalise you at the 1 level, they are dead serious.

On these auctions 99% of the time I wouldn't even have to look at my cards to know what is the right thing to do.

Good, I'm glad to see my action at the table was reasonable, even if my hindsight wasn't 20/20!

If I remember correct we have had that discussion before and most people thought pass was nonforcing, based on the idea that East might have a weak hand with six or more spades, just hoping that 1♠x doesn't make too many overtricks if West doesn't have significant extras.

East needs to double 2♣ though.

BTW I wouldn't have balanced with the West hand.

Yeah, the traveller was mostly filled with 1S-1 and 1S-2s. My partner managed to win 8 tricks on a misdefense, for most of the matchpoints :lol:

I would run even if playing 5 card majors. Which in my case is just another way of saying I would run.

XX. This exact sequence comes up in stories a lot, by the way. The usual theme is that Opener passes, Responder panicks, but Opener has every ounce of his pass even opposite a void.
