Is this basically universally played as the majors?
Does anyone prefer NOT to play that treatment?

An opponent once had the majors and bid 4♣, then 4♦ when doubled, then redoubled when doubled in that. His partner did not read it, and +2200 was a good score for us.

I don't know how to show majors here... but when is Double ever useful here? Partner is at a guess on the opening lead, and will often lead wrong. In addition, you will almost never collect more than 500 in these auctions, so it's not too beneficial. Still, it's a valuable call to have. I'm wondering if there is any merit to use double here as Minors/Majors? IMO 4♣ should be natural though. But maybe in theory it's better as the Majors.

Really very often imo, I would never play the double for the majors here.

I think the difference between -600 and +500 is quite beneficial.

What about the times when partner doesn't make the right lead, and instead makes a lead allowing it to make with several overs? I mean... you hold, say, Kxx QJxx Tx xxxx, what do you lead?

I never hold that hand when partner doubles. I usually have:
x xxx Jxxx xxxxx. I lead my spade, since in my partnerships it asks for a lead of my shorter major.

meanwhile 4C natural will almost never occur. The opps usually don't have a major suit fit, so you having long clubs and a hand that actually wants to bid is quite unlikely. However if you have both majors it's much more likely that you want to bid, and much more likely that you have such a hand.

More like 'whats the difference' springs to mind, since I could ask in reply what I should bid with KJT9xx QJT9xx x -.
