They may be, but I really don't think we are in a good position to guess. I will pass, partner still has a bid. IMO 5 of a red suit could be a good save, but it could also be a phantom or be going for a number... I'll pass.

I doubled. 3 doubled overtricks on the ♥ lead. Yuck. After the hand the table was somewhat puzzled why I doubled. I argued that I would do it again...

I would certainly double, I am not sure I would pass as East, but I am sure I would lead a diamond not a heart.

Because on most days I expect no one is making game... 5♥ is going for at least 500 on decent defense.

Maybe they are stealing, but I don't see where I can provide more than 2 tricks in defence vs 4♠ and don't expect 5♥ to make. I am going against the flow here and passing. I don't see the IMP odds of doubling 4♠ when I am unsure whether it makes or not since the opps likely have lots of distribution.
