West has just realized he has got the 8 of Diamond and made a revoke, playing the 2 of Heart.

The director is called and explains the rules:

1) West must play the 2 of Heart as soon as he (legally ) can.No more revoke!
2) If East wins a trick before the 2 of Heart has been played, you can chose to ask him to play Heart or chose to forbid him to play Heart.

How do you play ?

I don't get it, can't you now just knock out the club and claim because they can't lead spades?

I always feel very sheepish enforcing the revoke to make an impossible contract, but hey, it's part of the game.

Of course, if RHO wins the ace of clubs when LHO is out of clubs...and pitches his penalty card...then RHO will be on lead with no restrictions. Hmmmmm

So you play a spade which works as a scissors coup of sorts. LHO wins and plays the heart. Now you can safely knock out the ♣A for 11.

There was a similar situation in the Vanderbilt or Spingold a few years back.

Yes it is possible it comes from a Spingold or Vanderbilt a few years back.

Bertrand Gignoux , a French director, showed me this hand.He said it was a true story that happened in US some years ago.

So it basically comes down to guessing which set of hands is more likely on the auction:

While it's fun to play for the coup to cut off communications, I'm not sure it's clear that the second West hand is more likely than the first.

I would say that the second hand is significantly more likely, for 2 reasons.
1) West has come in with 2H in an auction that smells of a misfit with partner passing, both opponents bidding, and North being reasonably likely to have 4 Hearts stacked over you for his earlier double.
2) If West held an entry outside Spades he would be more likely to lead Spades from the top down rather than underleading AKQ

I agree on both counts, particularly the second.
