Scoring: XIMP

Partner opens 1, you respond 2 game forcing, and partner bids 2NT.

Unfortunately, your system here is rather lacking. You have the following knowledge: at these colors, 1NT is 10-12. (edited: If partner is balacned, he is 13-15, stonger balanced hands always open 1/2 level bids).

You have agreed that partner would have rebid 2 if and only if he has five or more diamonds. That is the extent of your discussion on 1-2 auctions.

What is your call/plan?

I bid 3.

Partner Bids - Then I bid...
3 - 3 (then I bid 4 if partner bids 3 and pass 3NT)
3 - 3 (then pass 3NT)
3 - 3NT
4 - 4

Agree with 3 forcing.

At my table partner and I ran into trouble on this hand for different reasons. Our agreement was that 2 was "invitational or better" and that 2NT was natural and showed a maximum (14+ to 15), but partner wasn't sure that 3 would be forcing here (his thought was that it could show a pushy "long-suited invite" that only wants to be in game opposite a fitting honor, whereas my rule was that an invite-plus hand opposite a maximum is forcing to game).

3, we could have reasonable play for slam opposite a balanced hand weaker than partner's minimum, therefore we have to try opposite partner's actual range.

obv 3C, hoping to get to the right game more than anything. He could be 3343 with weak spades.
