Pass Pass

I can't stop them from bidding 5. 4 could win if they have game in a major but I'd rather defend than make them guess, at the risk of going for 500 on air.

By the way I think I grew out of trying to psyche n00bs out of stuff about a year ago... and I've still got a lot of bridge growing to do. In fact in my mind taking strange actions against LOLs is somewhat unethical (not saying that 4 is necessarily strange or unethical here) because they don't have the tools to defend themselves. Anyway it screws up your bridge game to think in wildly different veins every time you switch tables.

A. Pass and lead a club.

B. Tougher. They are cruising into 3N and I want to preempt them out of it so 4.

I don't want to play with your partners.

I'd pass, but if responder tries 3NT then I would bid 4 over that, since it's MPs.

With new players = swish. I am fearful of 5 racking.
With superstars = swish. I've seen many convert this into 3NT and if they bid it, they got it, and pard's preempts are on garbage. 4 doesn't enter into my mind.

LHO has a balanced 8 count, RHO has a 3460 17 count. I'm not telling if I saw this one at the club or when I was playing in the Bermuda Bowl. They have 13 tricks in diamonds but they're passing out 3
