I am going to stick with the field and bid 4♥ not because I think my cardplay is much better than theirs, but simply because I think that is the contract that will bring me the most matchpoints in the long run.

I am not rejecting the invitation because there are a lot of 17 counts that are worse than this one, especially given the fit. I am not bidding 3NT because it can easily go down and even if not, it is quite likely that we have 1 more trick in hearts than nt.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

This surely is an easy 4H bid. We have 3-card support, a doubleton, an excellent 5-card suit, a sixteen count and 4 tens! Did I mention the excellent 5-card suit?

3NT would not have occured to me. Having thought about it I think it is really bad.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

I agree.
Partner said he wants to play in H if we have a fit. We have a fit and are even unbalanced and no stop in D.
The only time I would consider not going back to H with a 3 card is if I have 3 mall H and good stops in the other suits.

I think the JT, QTx, and the pre-established club suit all argue for 3NT, but I'd still bid 4H because of the minimal combined point-count (which makes it more likely that we'll be wide open in diamonds, or won't be able to establish hearts). If partner had bid 3NT I might pass.

It occurred to me LOL. I guess those 10's looked really good for 3N, but pard had Axx QJ9xx xx Jxx. I ran a few sims and for 3N to be right we need running hearts and a diamond stop (and sometimes that creates a spade problem), which is just too much of a parlay.

By the way, nothing makes here with accurate defense. Some of the field didn't invite so any minus is below average. My pard suggested 3♥ by the way.

Maybe nothing makes at the table, but you certainly want to be in 4H.

3♥ didn't occur to me at all. It only would if I knew partner bid games with an invite and invited with just short of an invitational hand. :)

Phil, I will do a simulation tonight. I will give partner an 8-count (5332) or 25(42). I suspect the double dummy odds for 4H are slightly above 50%.

I guess I don't understand why someone would even play jacoby transfers if they are not choosing hearts with ATx and an unstopped doubleton.
