Scoring: IMP

1   1   dbl  2
pass 3   4   4
5   pass pass

1 = clubs or any weak notrump
dbl = four spades
3 = to play

Would you have bid differently up to now? What, if anything, would you do now?
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

My gut reaction is to bid 5 in the auction as given but really i have no idea.

2 looks like a significant underbid to me. I'd have done something different -- 2 if I had no other gadgets.

I had tried an invite instead of 2 too.

Now? Partner did not double, so their club fit seems to be huge. He did bid 3 , so he seems to have 6 hearts but no good hand.
It is really possible that they can make 5 Club if the hearts are 3-1 and the diamond finesse is off or there is a diamond singelton too.

I try 5 Heart. But hey, you just won the Camrose, I just the 2 table tourney from my Aunt Edda.... So whatever you did was obviously right in the long run- but maybe wrong in this hand.
Kind Regards

Roland

I would just pass without too much thought here. I don't really want to bid 5/5 with 3 trumps when partner has not shown much strength.

Perhaps partner has Kx AQTxxx xx xxx, the red suits behave, and we make 12 or 13 tricks. Or perhaps partner has QJx KQxxxx x Kxx and nobody makes anything. So, not having much idea, I just pass on general principles.

I don't mind the earlier bidding. 2 does feel a bit of an underbid, but I also don't like raising to the 3 level with 3 card support. If 3 shows a fit, it is clearly a reasonable alternative, but I would prefer to have 4 card hearts to bid like that. As the auction went, at least we did get a chance to bid 4.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

I think I already bid my hand. If I had a heart more, I'd try 5, but, as it is, pass.

My impression from the bidding is that both red suits will split badly.
RHO seems short in and probably long in something like a 4144 shape.
LHO passed 2 but can bid 5 now, maybe he would like us to play a contract. Holding 3-4 and 5-6 would not be surprising.

So I tend to think that 5 could be a makable contract.

On the other hand, K is likely onside and I could ruff partners with a little luck he can dump his on .

I guess I would try 5.

5D for me.

Nice playing in the Camrose!

I don't like 2H, I would have made a good heart raise. An 8-count with a great 6-card side suit and a void seems way too much for a single raise.

An alternative is to show diamonds and hope you can support hearts later but I don't like that either. I won't make a fit jump with Jxx support.

So I'm not very happy with my auction to date, but I showed my heart support plus some of my diamonds, and I did suggest competing even higher. Partner's 3H showed an honest overcall with likely a 6th heart but it wasn't forward going, his pass is not forcing. I would pass now.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

I don't understand 3 to play, why didn't partner bid 2 instead of 1?.

Partner must have something very exclusive hand, if partner was me he must have a 6332 hand with scattered 11-13 HCP.

5 hearts will have little chance to make, partner's trumps ain't solid, he doesn't probably have K, and a spade lead will greatly threaten us. I think we must pass now and pray for the best.

It's easy to be critical of the 2 call, but the hand is not really worth a fit showing jump in my view.. it is close but not quite there, and 2 could lead to problems later.. we can see that LHO is likely to bid more clubs, and then where are we" We can hardly pass and reopening 3 is potentially awkward.

As it is, we got to show a 3 card raise with long decent diamonds, no good enough for a fit jump.

I think partner could have bid more if he wanted to, and he didn't. That doesn't mean that bidding won't work out.... obviously, it could. But I'd pass.. staying consistent with my earlier decisions... I don't think I have learned anything to cause me to rethink the hand that much.
